Leslie Bethea, a woman from Surgoinsville, Tennessee, was sentenced to 6 years in federal prison for fraudulently obtaining coronavirus relief money and using it for personal luxuries. Bethea applied for a loan from the Payroll Protection Program, which she did receive, despite not being eligible. She used the funds to pay for a stay at the Trump Resort in Florida and for cosmetic surgery. She was also accused of making false statements to her probation officer, which is a violation of her supervised release. She has been ordered to pay close to $21,000 in restitution.
